These new clubs can change ball flight, spin rate, trajectory, and everyone can benefit from a finely tuned new driver. Ping has been a consistent player in the golf club market for decades, but they don’t receive the same hype as Calloway, Taylor Made, or Cobra. It’s time to take a look at the 2019 G410 Plus Driver from PING and determine if it is worth the investment.
With my driver, I slid the weight all the way to the Fade position, and I am confident I will hit the ball down the middle or with a draw. It took a little bit of time to get used to, but being confident with a driver in your hand is powerful, and it will really help you lower your scores. This setup may seem backwards to you, but it really has worked for my game.
Ping is known in the industry to never compromise on quality, even if it does take a longer time to introduce new equipment. Although Ping was interested in offering adjustable drivers for years, the company did not get launch an adjustable hosel driver until 2012 when they launched the Ping Anser Driver.

“The mandate we’ve always had is you can do all sorts of adjustability and fitting options, as long as we’re not taking a step back on some of the fundamentals,” said Dr. Paul Wood, Ping’s VP of engineering. “When we can get to a point where we’re not sacrificing Moment of Inertia or CG location, then we can do it. Nothing is for free. Everyone wants all of the sliding weights and adjustability, but it comes at a tradeoff. Do you want to sacrifice stability for more yardage?”
The maraging-steel face, typically found on Ping’s fairway woods, provides a more responsive surface for ball speed purposes. The 30-gram dual-density tungsten toe weight greatly increases the overall forgiveness of the head without altering the profile. To give the club a solid feel, internal ribs were positioned within the body to stiffen the entire structure. The G410 Crossover retails for $247.50 and comes in three lofts (17, 20 and 23 degrees).
, which replaces last year’s Stretch model. The slightly smaller head and more forward CG position is designed to launch shots higher with less spin and a steeper angle of descent to hold greens. The smaller LST player pool only makes it necessary to offer one loft (14.5 degrees). The raised Turbulators on the crown give the head an aggressive look while serving a functional purpose as well, improving the club’s overall aerodynamic efficiency.

This combines with Ping’s familiar, weight-saving “Dragonfly” technology that’s designed to thin out the crown to save weight from the top of the club and be moved lower in the head. You may also notice that the Turbulators on the front of the crown, designed to increase aerodynamic qualities, have been given a more aggressive look. The result of these technologies, according to Ping, is a faster look that also helps with alignment.
The most noticeable change is the inclusion of a moveable tungsten weight in the rear of the G410 Plus driver head. There are three weight locations – draw, neutral and fade – that Ping says allows for a difference of 20 yards between draw and fade. For further customization, the G410 Plus, and the more forgiving SFT (Straight Flight Technology) head, both have an eight-setting, aluminum/thermoplastic hosel that allows for more loft and lie options than previous Ping drivers.
While the G410 fairways – there’s a standard model, an SFT and an LST – have a fixed Tungsten weight in the low-back portion of the head for greater forgiveness, Ping says weight has been pushed more forward in the heads compared to the G400 models in order to “deliver more energy from the shallower face while providing greater stability.” Like the drivers, the fairway woods also have an eight-option adjustable hosel.

This is what I’m really starting to appreciate about Ping. They’re honest and realistic.. or at least they appear to be. They seem to do a good job of walking the fine line between Major OEM and Consumer brand. In this case, it sounds like they weren’t really sure if they could outdo last year’s G400 LST. While it looks like they’ve done a really good job trying, they even came out and said.. “while we improved here.. we fell back a bit there and that’s just how good the G400 LST is/was” but either way, there’s something in this driver that will do a lot of people some good.. but not everybody. That said, the G400 LST really did deserve its 2018 throne. Simply put, it was an absolute hell of a driver!
I haven’t yet had a chance to hit the G410 LST.. but I will say this, I’ve hit the rest of the range of clubs. Fairway woods, Hybrids, UDI’s, and irons. While the irons weren’t my thing (just can’t get over hitting a 7 iron 200 yds), the rest of the offerings are absolutely killer. I’ve never been a huge fan of loud sounding metals mostly because the sound is usually tinny or just not pleasing. The new fwy woods and hybrids are quite loud.. but the acoustics and feel are so addictive that you find yourself having daydreams about them. Sound and feel aside, they also crush the performance category in all areas. I can only imagine that the driver produces something similar.

The G410 SFT has been made using the same body and crown technologies, but instead of having a movable weight in the back, it has a weight that stays in the heel area. It’s deeper in the heel than the Draw setting of the G410 Plus, so it should do a better job of helping to close the face angle on the downswing and reduce the severity of a slice. The G410 SFT is only available in a 10.5-degree version.
While moveable weights have been designed into drivers for years, Ping’s movable weight in the G410 Plus has been built on the seam in the back of the club that joins the sole and the crown, so regardless of the setting, the moment of inertia (MOI) remains very high and the driver remains forgiving on off-center hits.
The Ti 8-1-1 body is topped with a redesigned titanium crown that is just 0.017 inch thick. Like several previous Ping drivers, it features turbulators, which are fang-shaped ridges near the topline. They enhance aerodynamics, but the G410 drivers they have been pushed slightly back to do the job more efficiently.

To put into perspective what Ping is bringing to the table with their new driver, we have to think about how a driver is modified through custom fitting. The challenge presented to the design team was: how can the company bring moveable CG fitting to every golfer while also improving MOI and add ball speed? This is where all of the previous technology advances, along with the 16g of moveable mass positioned to the furtherest reaches of the perimeter to allow for a tour level fitting experience.
