The first detail to capture your attention is the two screens dominating the dashboard. The instrument panel is now represented by a 12.3” landscape display with three display styles – Discrete, Sporty and Classic. At the centre, there is an 11.9” vertically aligned infotainment display running on Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX). The system offers wired Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, MBUX Navigation Premium and a 4G LTE radio for Mercedes me connect services. Oddly, the infotainment system is not hooked up to a Burmester audio system, not even on the more expensive C 300 AMG Line.
The C 200 Avantgarde and C 300 AMG Line come with good but not great active driver assistance features, but it’s nice to Mercedes-Benz Malaysia not reserving these features for the range-topping variant only. As standard, the C-class gets seven airbags, passive cruise control, active lane-keep assist, active blind-spot monitoring, brake assist with autonomous emergency braking (AEB), active parking assist and tyre pressure monitoring system.
For this generation, the higher spec lighting system is called Digital Light LED which is currently found on the new S-class. But I feel that it is relatively new, therefore making it an expensive option for the C-class. Therefore, to keep the price in check, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia might not have checked the box. Perhaps the CKD model would be fitted with the Digital Light LED considering it will be sold at a lower price.

Naturally, the new C-Class gets a lot of trickle-down driver-assistance systems from the S-Class for improved safety, as well. Chiefly, improved cameras and sensors now integrate together more completely and effectively than before. For example, Benz’s updated lane-recognition tech works with the available 360-degree camera system for improved performance in corners and on highways alike. The car can now look farther down the road, detecting and reacting to parked cars at speeds of up to 62 mph (the old system only managed 37). Riding atop a new platform and carrying standard 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, the 2022 C-Class will only be available with Benz’s M254 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. This twin-turbocharged I4 is good for 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, but the aforementioned mild-hybrid assist with its integrated starter-generator can deliver up to 20 additional horsepower and a whopping 148 pound-feet of torque for short-term boosts. A nine-speed automatic transmission is mandatory.

For the 2023 C-Class exterior color palette, you can expect to see some fan favorites. The no-cost Black and Polar White are less likely to be spotted in the wild as most buyers will happily pay the extra $750 for the metallics. LED headlights are standard but can be upgraded to LED digital variants. The rear is stately but takes no risks – AMG-style spoilers can be added optionally together with blacked-out accents, courtesy of the AMG-Line with Night Package. Tear-drop brake lights break over the trunk, while a pair of bumper-integrated exhausts tie the parting view together.
The exterior of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class is reminiscent of the much larger S-Class. The fact that it’s longer and wider than the last generation only reinforces this image. A set of 18-inch alloy wheels come standard, but you can upgrade to larger items if you want to. A panorama roof is optionally available if you want more than just the standard sunroof.
