전반적으로 성능이 향상됐다. 그러나 스냅드래곤 845의 가장 큰 장점은 그래픽과 전력 소비 측면의 업그레이드이다. 그렇지만 앞선 세대보다 아주 크게 향상이 된 것은 아니다. 어쨌든 S9에 탑재된 845는 삼성 익스프리언스(Samsung Experience) OS와 함께 꽤 우수한 배터리 사용 시간을 제공한다. 대부분의 벤치마크 결과가 약 8시간 정도이다. 필자가 사용하는 S8의 배터리 사용 시간 9시간 이상에는 못 미친다. 그러나 실 사용 시간은 더 큰 배터리를 장착한 최신 스마트폰을 앞선다. 더구나 장착된 배터리가 S8과 동일한 3,000mAh의 비교적 용량이 작은 배터리이다. 사용 방법에 따라 하루 종일 사용할 수 있는 배터리 사용 시간이다. 그러나 배터리 사용 시간 측면에서 진짜 혁신을 기대한다면 조금 더 오래 기다려야 한다.

삼성은 갤럭시 S9에서 ‘새롭게 탄생한’ 카메라를 강조한다. 그러나 이중 조리개, 슈퍼 슬로우 모션, AR 이모지 등 새로운 기능들은 ‘트릭’이거나, 경쟁 모델을 따라잡는 기능이다. 여기에 더해 스크린이 더 큰 플러스(Plus) 모델에서만 듀얼 카메라와 라이브 포트레이트(Live Portrait) 모드를 지원한다. 이런 까닭에 지금 리뷰하고 있는 S9은 새로운 스마트폰보다는 중간에 적당히 업그레이드한 스마트폰이라는 생각이 든다. 갤럭시 S9은 2018년 처음 출시된 프리미엄 스마트폰으로는 완벽하게 좋다. 그러나 다른 스마트폰들이 그 뒤를 따를만한 흥미로운 혁신이 도입된 그런 스마트폰은 아니다.

찾기만 하면, 빅스비 비전은 S8보다 사용자 경험을 크게 강화하는 유용한 역할을 한다. 실시간 번역, 훨씬 더 빠르고 정확한 이미지 스캔 기능을 제공하기 때문이다. 사진을 촬영하지 않고 대상을 스캔한다는 점에서 구글 렌즈 어시스턴트 버전과 비슷하다. 가장 흥미로운 기능은 아마존 데이터베이스를 검색해 간단한 영양 정보를 제공하는 식품 스캔이다. 그러나 항상 작동하는 것은 아니다. 예를 들어, 바나나를 (비슷하게 생긴)플렌테인으로, 아보카도를 카보차 호박(Kabocha Squash)로 잘못 인식했다. 하지만 전반적으로 빅스비의 유용한 ‘툴박스’인 것은 분명하다.

While each screen has the same 2,960×1,440-pixel resolution, the S9 Plus screen is larger at 6.2 inches, compared to the 5.8-inch diagonal Galaxy S9.

That’s probably not a big deal, though. As far as we’re aware, Android phones mostly use RAM to keep lots of apps easily accessible when you multitask — and unless you’re a monster multitasker, 4GB is already quite a bit. That said, developers figure out ways to use more processing power and RAM each year.

thing when it comes to Samsung and its software are updates. As we all know, updates are very important, but Samsung continues to act as if they don’t see them as importantly as their customers do. Last year’s Galaxy S8 is only now receiving Oreo, a solid half year after it was released by Google. The Galaxy S9 and S9+ launch with Oreo, but does anyone want to take a bet on when they could see Android P, the latest iteration already in testing by Google? If we want to know how positive of an impact as Google’s Project Treble will have, let’s use these phones as the example. As Google explains Treble, “It’s a major re-architect of the Android OS framework designed to make it easier, faster, and less costly for manufacturers to update devices to a new version of Android.” Will it really help? Let’s be patient and find out. If it still takes Samsung six months after Android P is publicly available to update the Galaxy S9 and S9+, then we know something is amiss.

To start, let me point out the things I don’t think should be included, only because they don’t really solve a problem or have a proper place. For me, Edge Screen can go. I always disable it after the first day because I dislike swiping it open by accident, and really, all of the features in there are handled by various apps that I can access with a couple of clicks. I don’t need most of the things inside Edge Screen handled by the OS when I have better-developed apps to do it. For example, there is a Yelp panel that shows places to eat by you and their ratings. You know what else does this? The dedicated Yelp app as well as Google Maps. There is also a Sports panel, but there are numerous apps dedicated to sports. Heck, even Google Now also can provide sports scores. It’s like these panels exist only for the sake of existing, not actually doing anything better than their app counterparts. Because of this, let’s go ahead and axe the whole thing.

The thing Samsung hyped the most when debuting S9’s is its new-and-improved camera. The marquee ability of the S9’s upgraded imaging hardware is a variable-aperture camera. The 12-megapixel, optically-stabilized main cameras of both the S9 and S9+ have two aperture settings thanks to an aperture plate on both phones that slides in place whenever it’s needed. Wide open, the camera gathers more light in dim situations at a fast f/1.5 aperture. When stopped down, it shoots in f/2.4, which is better for brighter environments. The camera’s other major trick is a super slow-motion setting, which leverages an on-sensor data buffer to shoot up to 960 frames per second.

Two versions of the flagship Sammy phone will be available: a 5.8-inch S9 and a whopping 6.2-inch S9+. All the standard Samsung features have been branded this generation as “Galaxy Foundation,” and no, that’s not a new non-profit charity. This term sums up all the things that make a Galaxy a Galaxy—stuff like IP68 water and dust protection, fast wireless charging, and microSD memory expansion. New in the S9 and S9+ is an enhanced biometric security setting that combines the slower, more secure iris scanner with facial recognition. There’s even a headphone jack, which seems like such a luxury in 2018.

The new S9 looks almost like last year’s S8, and that’s completely intentional. Both the S9 and S9+ refine the Galaxy’s already mature design. Perhaps the biggest physical change here (besides the addition of a badass Lilac Purple color option) is around the back of the phone, where the fingerprint scanner has been moved to sit just below the camera. This addresses one of the biggest gripes users had with the S8, since it was stupidly easy to smudge up the camera’s glass cover when feeling around for the tiny fingerprint pad.

So I had to get used to it (which is true for any new cellphone) When I first got it, I thought it was rather small, smaller than than the Android smartphones I have had previously. Even with the hard plastic protective case, it is small. pros perfect size, fast, nice camera,battery life ok. cons screen raised shape sticks up above the case. con the back cover is glass and glued down would be hard to change the battery. I broke my wifes trying to get the back off it cracked in a bunch of pieces. need to pay someone to fix. I think samsung got this ideal from apple they have always been hard to change the battery. I think they want you to replace your phone when the battery gets bad.
